How I got here
I have been in the mortgage and real estate lending business for over 30 years. After college I started out selling cars, then wanted to look into other sales opportunities, which led me into this industry.
Why I do this work
I enjoy the everyday conversations with real estate agents, title officers, and clients looking for loan options. I do it because it makes me feel I am accomplishing something.
Who I work with
I work with any and all buyers, especially investors looking to build their portfolio. I specialize in DSCR loans, and I wrote an informational guide for agents and investors called The Investor's Guide to DSCR Loans, published and for sale on Amazon. I also understand VA, FHA, investor fix-and-flip, and all Non-QM and Conventional loans.
What I tell first-time buyers
The biggest worry is “Can I afford the home?” and “What if we don't get the home?” I always look at what a client can qualify for and explain the issues with buying at their max. I let them know that being conservative now benefits them in the long run, and that money in the bank is often better than money spent on a down payment, since as a new homeowner you'll eventually need to make a repair or replace something, and it's wise to have funds available so you don't have to charge it to a credit card.
A closing I remember
One closing was scheduled, loan documents were drawn, and everything was set in title, when the client had an emergency and had to leave town for another state. We didn't panic, we coordinated with the title company to set up an accommodation signing in the state he had to go to. Within 30 minutes we had everything arranged, the signing took place, and the loan funded as agreed.
Home
I currently live in North Texas and have been there over 13 years, though I cover multiple states. Husband, father, and community volunteer when able.
