Seller-paid buydown
The seller contributes funds at closing that lower your payment for the first years of the loan.
Who it's for
Buyers negotiating in a market where sellers are offering concessions.
How it works
- Seller credits are placed in an account that subsidizes your payment for a set period, most often two or three years.
- Your loan's actual rate doesn't change; you qualify on the full payment.
What you'll need
- A seller willing to contribute
- A program that allows buydowns
Common questions
Should I ask for a buydown or a price cut?
Often the buydown lowers your payment more for the same seller dollars. We'll show you both numbers. Specific payment figures are provided in writing with required disclosures.
